|
For operational, safety, image and maintenance issues, trains must be regularly washed as it improves aesthetics and helps with routine maintenance. Removing dirt and build up from the locomotives increases the longevity of parts, improves safety and makes maintenance much easier. Train washes are heavily used and rely on dependable equipment to keep up with the non-stop pace. We’ve provided reliable, long-lasting locomotive wash pumps for over 40 years. Our washes use high pressure for cleaning and/or rinsing and operate at 1,000 - 3,000 PSI. The flow required depends on the type of wash from 5 GPM for a single gun to over 100 GPM for a spray arch. Locomotive washes can be configured with a central pump system to run multiple guns, and it needs to produce enough flow to manage peak demand. To improve system efficiency Cat Pumps has factory-programmed Variable Frequency Drives (VFD) available. The VFD gets feedback from sensors within the system and automatically adjusts its flow, based on demand. Our VFD-controlled systems shut down and start up automatically, saving energy when running the pump and there’s no demand. The savings are significant and provide a faster return on investment. In some cases, the VFD cost can be made up in under a year. |
